While serving overseas in Baghdad, Iraq, I never thought I would have to worry about democracy back home. When troops were deployed to American cities against the will of residents, I knew I had to do something.
I have worked as a Public Safety Assistant for the Irvine Police Department and I’m currently a reserve firefighter with the Orange County Fire Authority. With those skills I’ve helped local democracy advocates by providing security at rallies as a lead safety coordinator.
I believe that building a stronger, more tight-knit community by banding together with our individual abilities is the most effective way to have our voices heard.
It’s with this mindset that I’m running for Irvine City Council.

Community
The post COVID-era and isolating technology has led to an epidemic of loneliness. I would encourage the development of third spaces focused on our neighborhoods and promote social activities connecting our communities.
Safety
Irvine has enjoyed a world-renowned reputation as being the safest city. I’ll work to maintain that status, while addressing concerns about e-bike and fire safety.
Accountability
Our government should always be accessible and accountable, ensuring that the communities’ voices are heard. I will always be sure to value the perspectives of those that live and work in our district over others.
Affordability
For many, the dream of living and/or owning a home in Irvine feels out of reach. I’ll seek creative solutions to fairly reduce the obstacles towards that dream.
Sustainability
Impacts of climate change can already be seen by more intense fire seasons, long droughts, and higher energy costs. I’ll ensure our goals set in our climate action plan are realistic and achievable.

About Byron
Byron Salvatierra is a US Army Veteran and cybersecurity professional. As the son of Filipino immigrants, he knows firsthand how much opportunity Orange County and the United States afforded him. He is running for City Council to ensure future generations have the same.
In the army Byron served in Baghdad, Iraq and afterwards he helped form a Military Veterans Employee Resource Group in the private sector to advance Veteran causes.
After his military career, Byron received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Cal State Long Beach. He has over 25 years of experience in tech, gaming, and cybersecurity.
Byron has lived in Irvine for over 40 years, and now lives in Woodbridge with his wife, kids, and two dogs.
